So, SOPA/PIPA protest blackouts... I think I've said all I need to say and more above.

Have fun out there, you crazy kids!

This comic was originally posted with the following attached to the top of the comic in a large black box:
SOPA/PIPA Protest Blackout
Why haven’t I jumped on board?

I want to acknowledge that this is going on, but a site blackout? I think mentioning it, talking it over, is just as good. Besides, I don’t have the heart to deprive you all of my, ahem, wonderful comic.
While I find these bills alarming and oppose them, I’m not a fanatic. I do think that there should be some better tools in place to protect copyright holders from criminal copyright infringement, but a calm and reasonable hand needs to guide this. Moderation is key in all things. Buddha or somebody said so… Wikipedia is blacked out (drastically reducing my effective intelligence), so I can’t check.

While I do not fear that SOPA/PIPA will be the actual first step on a slippery slope towards a Chinese-style censored internet for the U.S. and parts beyond, I do believe it is the responsibility of all mankind to be vigilant in protecting our freedoms. I may not agree that information “wants to be free,” but I assert that all mankind should be free to express themselves and free to act insofar as they do not limit the freedoms of another.

In a perfect world, no laws would be needed to enforce this social ideal, but we live in a far from perfect world. Laws are necessary, and not everyone has the same moral biases, so some laws seem unfair. We must sacrifice now and again, deviate from personal code in favor of greater social order, but there comes a time where a man must draw a line in the sand and say, “I shall go no further.”

Not understanding this in my youth, I have bent when I should have stood firm, bowing before teachers and other authority figures in my life when right was on my side, but I have learned. I once swore an oath to protect the principles on which my nation was founded from all enemies, foreign and domestic, and though I have rejoined the ranks of the civilian world, my sacred oath stands firm.

Today, this is my line in the sand.

To the leaders of my nation and to my countrymen I say this:
I shall not stand idly by as my freedoms are bartered for an illusion of security.
I shall stand vigilant, as should all free men, in defense of my rights.
While there is breath in my lungs and blood in my veins, I will fight to remain free.
If I cannot live a free man, I’ll sure as Hell go down swinging!

Sadly, a gag-a-day webcomic may not be the place to take a stand on political issues. Despite the inclusion of a "tl;dr? There's a comic at the bottom", my Google Analystics suggested that people stayed on the page just long enough to go "The fuck is this?" and close the tab/window. Sad day!
